MY COMMUNITY AGENDA AS YOUR COUNTY JUDGE
Until the economy improves, local governments including the county must balance decreasing revenues against growing needs. As your County Judge, I will:
- develop creative solutions to address economic challenges;
- continue the consolidation and collaboration efforts I started among the taxing entities. No one else running for county judge has ever accomplished this;
- fight state and federal government’s shifting of costs for important services to the local property taxpayer. Only an engaged, informed and active county judge will prevent these unfunded mandates.
Important projects and policy work should be coming from your County Judge’s office to improve our lives and create greater economic opportunity. As your County Judge, I will:
- understand the changing landscape of healthcare funding to ensure we get what’s needed to help alleviate the local tax burden;
- demand greater state and federal funding for mental healthcare so the burden doesn’t fall disproportionately on the local taxpayer;
- be a strong voice for greater and much-needed transportation funding for our outlying communities;
- work with economic development partners to forge a shared vision for a more prosperous El Paso that includes aggressive job creation;
- continue to streamline county government;
- build on the successes of my shared services initiatives to generate smarter, more efficient government that saves you money;
- insure that every township, city and colonia within the county in the will be included in the progress that we have already made and will continue to make.
